Unfortunately for many football fans, the two clubs met only 9 times in 17 years but that doesn't mean they weren't spectacular. If the recent meetings are anything to go by, we have a match on our hands. It looks even on the paper if we include the stats of the friendlies too but when it comes to having a killer instinct in the finals, Real Madrid are the master of big games and they'll be facing against their old manager! And it's just one of the few plots surrounding the two clubs. Here are the five major talking points.
Once again, Cristiano Ronaldo sees Manchester United between him and silverware as the two clubs face off in the finals of the super cup. Not only that, Ronaldo would be lining up versus Jose Mourinho his previous manager at Real Madrid,
Gareth Bale has been subjected to a lot of transfer speculation and has been particularly linked with a move to Old Trafford. It would be exciting to see what the future holds for Bale as he could be eyeing to put on Manchester United's red kit. A deadline day bid perhaps?
Mourinho just cannot get away from the ghost of Real, can he? After guiding Real to a La Liga in 2012, he had to beg Real board to let him go back to England and Chelsea as he geared up for his second coming. The second coming didn't go according to plan and after being sacked by Chelsea, he got the Manchester United job and would be licking his lips to have a go at Real.
We all know that Pogba and Lukaku make good basketball buddies as we keep seeing glimpses of them having a go at each other on the basketball court, we shall see tonight how good footballing buddies they make for one another.
In 2015 Real Madrid was one minute away from signing David De Gea when 'apparently' Manchester United sent the vital fax at 11:59 PM Spanish time, leaving Real officials no time to submit it to La Liga transfer authorities. De Gea was stuck in a limbo and eventually decided to continue as a Man Utd player. Feel free to start your own conspiracy theories should you see him hugging Real Madrid players.
We predicted that despite Manchester United adding to their firepower in the shape of Lukaku, it won't be enough to overcome Ronaldo, Bale, and Benzema and Real would coast home with a victory.
Final Result: Real Madrid beats Man U 2-1, So yes, we did guess it correct.
