On In Animals

This Orangutan Met A Burn Victim At A Zoo And Reacted As Humans Do

Primates share a very similar DNA to that of human beings, and ergo, they have a higher ability to communicate with us and to empathize with what we’re feeling. Some such moments when captured or experienced show how closely connected we are to animals than we think and care. Recently, Darci Miller and her fiance decided to visit the Indianapolis Zoo where they interacted with an Orangutan which was so sensitive towards Miller that it's worth watching. Miller got severe burns in a tragedy back in 2015 and is still in the process of recovering. When Rocky, an 11-year-old Orangutan saw her through the glass of his enclosure something unexpected happened that left everyone in awe and is going viral on the internet. Scroll down to know more!

This is Rocky

Rocky is an 11-year-old Orangutan that resides at the Indianapolis Zoo.

Who are Orangutans?

The orangutans are the two exclusively Asian species of extant great apes. Native to Indonesia and Malaysia, orangutans are currently found in only the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra.

Darci visited the Zoo

Along with her fiance, she visited the Indianapolis Zoo, lately, where she was greeted by Rocky as soon as he saw her.

Rocky looked at her closely

He first noticed her tattoo and then he noticed her burn marks. Through his actions, he indicated that he wanted to see her burn marks. Source: Inspiremore

Everyone around was stunned

People in the vicinity were asking if his reaction was normal. You could hear what is most likely a staff member saying, “This is totally normal for Rocky … He’s like, ‘I need to see this.'”

Check out this video to see his empathetic reaction

Rocky look so curious, but he is also very calm about his interaction with Darci. He doesn’t bang on the glass or make noises, he just wants to see why Darci is covering up her body. He almost appears empathetic to what she has gone through. And why aren't we humans not that empathetic? Something to ponder upon. That's all, mates.
